Bring Change Within Yourself

In our daily lives, we often come across people who behave in ways that hurt us. They may be rude, ignorant, or even hateful. Naturally, we want them to change. We think, “Why can’t they behave better?” or “Why do they treat others like this?” But instead of waiting or expecting others to change, what if we focused on changing ourselves?

During a spiritual Q&A session, Sant Gobind Ram Ji shared a powerful teaching that touches the heart. A devotee asked how to stay calm when dealing with difficult people. Sant Ji responded with a question of his own:

“Why do we want to change others? Why are we trying to take on their karmas?”

This simple question holds deep meaning.

Change Starts from Within

Sant Ji explained that spiritual teachers and masters can only guide us through their words. They do not use magic to change anyone's life. Their role is to create awareness, to help us understand the path, but not to alter our karma or our life’s journey. Our karma is our own, and no one else can live it or erase it for us.

When we think too much about how others treated us badly, we unknowingly take on their negative karma. Even if we stay silent outside, if we keep replaying the hurt in our minds or curse them inside, we are making a harmful choice. We’re dragging their karmas into our own journey.

Sant Ji’s Teaching: Let Go, Stay Calm

Sant Ji gently advised:

“We do not need to respond or react to bad words or taunts. Just leave it. Let it be neutral. Keep your attention on the Divine Name (Naam Simran) and pray to the Almighty to balance your karmas. That way, we can avoid being tied to each other in the next life.”

This teaching reminds us of the bigger picture. Instead of reacting to every insult, we can choose to rise above it and ask for spiritual strength. By doing so, we free ourselves from the endless cycle of blame and pain.

Spiritual Practice Brings Peace

When we regularly practice spirituality, through meditative chanting we stay calm in our mind. We become less affected by negativity around us. Even if someone speaks badly, our focus remains on the Divine, on the sacred sound of ‘Sat Onkar’. That inner connection brings us peace and protection.

Real Change Begins with Us

We cannot change the whole world, but we can change how we respond to it. When we focus on improving ourselves, we become an example of peace and strength. And slowly, our inner change can inspire change in others too, not through force, but through love and calm presence.

As Sant Gobind Ram Ji beautifully showed us:

Stay centered in your practice, let go of the negativity, and keep your faith in the higher power ‘Onkar’, that is the path to true peace.
